Gemma Compton is an artist / fashion designer based in Bristol, UK. As a self confessed ‘perfectionist’ her highly detailed work with it’s strong style has crossed from garments to gallery walls.
Being brought up in a small town in the sleepy Cotswold’s sparked a life long love for nature, particularly ornithology and the British countryside. Her work draws influence from the flawless, high glamour imagery used throughout the creative industry. Magazines to billboards, pop culture and celebrity, mixed up with a sense of freedom from the natural world. Gemma works mainly in acrylic either on canvas or found object.
Gemma’s first solo show takes place in Bristol this week. The show entitled ‘Natural Beauty’ showcases a selection of canvases and wooden pieces depicting ‘nymph like’ women mixed with various wildlife dead and alive, juxtaposing our modern human ideals of beauty with the natural beauty of nature. Also reminding us the fragility and sensitivity of life itself and our understanding the concept of death.
‘Natural Beauty’ will run for only 5 days
Thursday 25th-30th Aug (excl Sunday)
open daily from 11am-7pm
