A UK getaway

With tunes pumping and the sun shining, my sister and I set off in the car to get out of London for the weekend.

Approximately an hour’s drive out of London we made the best pit stop at The Old Thatched Inn for lunch. The Old Thatched Inn is a cute pub in the centre of a village in Adstock, dating back to 1702.

Upon arrival we were invited to a lounge area to have a drink before being seated at our table. Almost every table was full, so it’s clearly a popular place.

For starters I had whitebait, for main duck and finally an espresso to boost me for the next leg of our journey.  Tummies full, we made our way through beautiful hilly countryside looking down into the shires below.

We arrived just under two hours later to a warm welcome at The Falcon in Painswick. The building dates back to 1554.

Once settled in our room we decided to go for a little stroll nearby. There’s a beautiful church with perfectly pruned Yew trees, all 99 of them, making the area unbelievably picturesque.

We dined at 8, sharing duck for starters. The interior is a country style with dusty blues and greys on the walls and checked patterned cushions on the seating. There was a cosy atmosphere as candle sticks glow on every table. I know I always seem to turn to steak on these reviews, but I feel the way a place does their steak is a good indicator of the overall standard. And it was beautifully done.

The bed was like a large cloud – super soft and huge too! The Falcon provide White Company toiletries which smell gorgeous and leave you feeling like you’ve had a mini spa in the shower.

For breakfast the next morning, we were seated by the window overlooking the church garden, the sun shone in as we ate a full English, at a very leisurely pace.

After we checked out, we weren’t due to be anywhere fast, so we popped into Meggies shop – a gift and lifestyle shop with lots of little interior treats. My sister couldn’t resist a delicate rose gold bangle.

Next we headed down the road to a place called Malt House Emporium, where we snooped through antiques, vintage, retro and interior pieces.
A perfect mini holiday away from London, to re energise and slow down the pace.
