Situated in Shepherd’s Bush within the trendy K West Hotel (currently celebrating its 10th Anniversary), their Kanteen Restaurant is about as stylish as they come, with clean crisp lines, bright leather furnishings, modern artwork and an equally contemporary dining experience courtesy Chef Eduart Berisha.
A few minutes walk from both Shepherd’s Bush and Kensington Olympia tube-stations, near the BBC headquarters and practically across the road from the vast new Westfield Shopping complex, the K West Hotel & Spa could possibly be the ultimate fashionista’s retreat after a long days shopping. Stylistically the hotel oozes of modernist cool, with its wide open plan interior architecture stretching the width of the hotel, which encompasses a foyer, lounge bar and a swish staircase leading up to the mezzanine level restaurant known as Kanteen.
The restaurant itself has a radiant, contemporary look to it with a well-rounded menu that would please all tastes. There are a variety of modern dishes on offer with perhaps a slight veering towards that of a Mediterranean feel, clearly evidenced in our chosen starters of salmon falafel served with red pepper hummus plus my choice of baked goats cheese and aubergine parcel served with cherry tomato, onion chutney & rocket salad. The starters defiantly served us well as perfectly portioned appetisers, with enough vibrancy to really open up the palate before shifted away from the distinguishable theme for the main courses. Thai green chicken curry with jasmine rice for my partner, whilst my personal choice was the risotto of courgettes, fava beans, cherry tomatoes & fresh herbs with seared salmon fillet. Overall they both proved to be excellent culinary decisions, but I could not help feeling somewhat jealous after tasting the Thai alternative. For desert we both rounded off what was a great meal with warm apple tart & honeycomb ice cream.
