A welcome dose of pampering with some Feel Good Fruit at K Spa

Being enveloped by the cold London rain and unpredictable wind I thought it was time to treat my slightly confused body and mind to a winter refresh. It’s the perfect time of year to sweep away the summer skin and begin the winter glow.

I arrived at K Spa after a gruelling day at work and so was ready to completely relax, I was out of my clothes and into my fluffy robe in minutes. I began by having a chat with the masseuse who had recently been out to Africa to research the methods and the various plants that they use for massage, one of which is the Baobab tree.

Nicknamed the ‘feel good fruit’, Baobab is one of Africa’s best kept secrets – until now. For centuries the people of Africa have turned to the baobab tree as a source of natural wellbeing, to benefit their skin, hair, health and to help bring out natural beauty.

K Spa is the first spa in London to launch this African-inspired Baobab treatment, priced at £110 for 70 minutes. And with £2 from each treatment being donated to the Aduna Foundation – it will help you do good too.

The Baobab’s incredible nutritional profile offers six times more Vitamin C than an orange, twice as much calcium as a glass of milk, and more iron than a steak. It’s high in alkalising minerals such as calcium, potassium, and magnesium, plus has one of the highest antioxidant capacities of any fruit in the world. It really is the superfruit of superfruits.

At K Spa the Baobab African Ritual starts with a relaxing full body exfoliation, followed by a “feel good” massage and cooling therapy for the legs. The sublime relaxing ritual harnesses the unique powerful ingredients produced by the African Baobab tree, which are exotic in nature and rich in nutrients. This is a nourishing, protective, smoothing and hydrating experience that will boost skin health and leave you both feeling and looking rejuvenated. The treatment finishes with a
complimentary Baobab smoothie to leave you feeling naturally energised whilst boosting your immune system.

During the treatment my masseuse felt rather like a human rolling pin, using her forearms to create a seamless covering of the body. It starts with a warm towel on each area of your body, deloctage, arms legs and tummy, followed by an intense scrub and then warm towels to cleanse the dead skin away.

Throughout the massage relaxing music is played and the room is full of beautiful scents and smells. At the end of the treatment a warm towel was wrapped under the back of my neck and gently pulled upwards, side to side for a proper stretch. The pulling on limbs throughout makes you feel instantly taller and improves posture, which really helps as at this time of year you’re likely to hunch against the cold. The pressure of the massage is entirely up to you, it’s not deep tissue but the pressure can be firm, if you fancy it.

The interior is calming and soothing with lots of drapes and relaxing loungers. The relaxation room has fresh fruit, lemon infused water and plenty of magazines.
Afterwards I felt flexible and relaxed yet invigorated, my skin was super clean, supple and refreshed, tingling from top to toe.
Book yourself in for one of these very unique massages, it’ll leave you feeling totally cleansed from the inside out.
