Goodwood Festival of Speed celebrates its 20th Birthday in true automotive style for 2012

A Mecca to motoring enthusiasts across the country, Goodwood showcases everything from exotic race cars to debuting the latest road-going launches. With 2012 marking the 20th Birthday of Goodwood’s prestigious ‘Festival of Speed’, the crowds were inevitably out in their masses, with a reputed 185,000 guests (including ourselves) making the annual pilgrimage.

Highlights were a plenty, but noteworthy standouts included Lotus’ giant sculpture installation to celebrate 50 years of their iconic lightweight Elan, which stood proud in front of Goodwood House. To mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, the Cartier Style et Luxe concours d’elegance focused on the Queen’s transport, whilst elsewhere a host of Group C action marked 30 years since the introduction of the endurance racing legends, and dedicated paddocks showcased everything from the world’s greatest supercars to heritage Le Mans cars and even some treats for motorcycle enthusiasts.

Please feel free to flick through our photographs of the day in our series of highlights (below), gallery (above), or find even more on our Facebook page.

Also a big thanks to the Leica Store in Mayfair for lending us a D-Lux 5 for the day to capture the action. You can view their full range of cameras and accessories here: www.leica-storemayfair.co.uk

About Sam Bryan-Merrett

Having originally started out as a budding musician and producer, Sam's career history is about as diverse as his ambitions. Having worked in finance up until the market meltdown of 2007-2008, Sam then built up a successful Apple-centric IT business that essentially seed funded Comte des Cierges. He has subsequently dedicated his efforts into both developing the website and drawing upon his artistic side to become one of the sites most prolific writers, where he can never resist scoping out London's top 5-star hotels and more recently rekindled his passion for motoring.
