A Gentleman’s eccentricities: Etro Menswear AW12 collection

ETRO AW12 catwalk show finale with full backdrop

Following the release of the Etro Menswear AW12 look book, CDClifestyle has decided to revisit the collection behind the editorial shots. Models Francisco Lachowski and Andres Risso take command over the Italian brands latest artistic efforts for the look book presentation, capturing the charming essence of the collection.

Aptly titled ‘The Great Flight: From the Everyday to the Legendary’, opulence is the key theme here for the AW12 collection: an array of rich, autumnal tones, lavish and luxurious fabrics and standalone separates. The stylistic qualities and effortlessly chic confidence of the modern man is a message truly conveyed through tweeds, wool and velvet, injecting texture and definition into the winter wardrobe. Unrelenting on the ‘Italian sense of style’, the collection enriched with exemplary tailoring, cuts and silhouettes truly represent the artisan reputation of the Etro family.

Regality prevails through rich plums, emerald greens, burnt oranges, black anthracite, petrol blues and ruby reds that are worked around the full texturing of luxe fabrics and thus creating a sartorial elegance. A vast array of eveningwear of which can be manipulated into daytime use; standout pieces that make statements alone and combined construct a dramatic collection. A semblance of sultry, poetic aristocracy illuminates the tweed morning jackets, paisley brocade waistcoats and velveteen trouser suits. Feathered accents demonstrate virtuosity at its highest accomplishments over jacquard silks, interwoven intarsia wools and satin cummerbunds.

Three looks from the Etro AW12 collection, displaying the autumnal colour range and textured, layered styling.

Corduroy coats create a rich contrast on tartan flannel whereas classic lace-ups, traditional and enduring volumes fight against the unrestricted colour palette, black and white graphics, and tribal prints whilst paisley is seduced by the tactile sumptuousness of brocades, damask and devoré velvets. Full jackets surround gilt embellishments on jumpers, patchwork on ties, and are complimented by an array of evening dress shirts, hats, shoes and pocket squares.

Etro presents a foundation of haute couture, cleverly measured proportions and decorative detailing where the soaring desire of freedom leads to the adoption of luxurious ideas and thus to epic, courageous and rich creations. Redefining the body shape of a male line is no easy feat, and through feathered chests and wings, inspired by Pegasus, Etro adds a sensational touch that classifies the dignified bearings of a free-spirited gentleman: the lightness of being. The oxymoron of fabrics truly reflects the oxymoron of nature.
