Volpetti, a Truffle Lover’s Salumeria in Rome

Volpetti salumeria in Rome

Volpetti is a lovely family owned salumeria specialising in all things tartufi alongside a quality assortment of cured meats, home made pastas and all sorts of other Italian delicacies. Here you’ll find a gorgeous selection of freshly prepared dishes here as well and a deli counter stacked high with freshly baked pizza slices, calzones and panini as well as an array of potential gifts for all your gourmet friends back home.

Specialities al tartufo include fresh white truffles; extra virgin olive olive oil with black truffle; honey with white truffles; truffle flavoured salamis and … oh you get the point. And if you find the aroma of truffles to be the stuff of dreams, then this quaint little shop might just be a retail heaven on earth for you.

This years marks Volpetti’s 40th anniversary, yielding yet another fine reason to pay custom to this foodie institution situated in the traditionally working class but very much up-and-coming neighbourhood of Testaccio. Just be of strong will when you do. I’ve shopped at Volpetti a few times, and – as frugal as I’d like to think I am in most situations – I’ve always ended up buying considerably more than I originally had intended. To be honest though, I’ve yet to regret even a single Volpetti purchase. Indeed a taste today of the truffled salami I bought during my last trip to Rome was the prompt leading to this glowing review.

Volpetti is located at 47 Via Marmorata, 00153, just a short walk away from the Piramide Metro station. The shop is open from 8am to 2pm and from 5pm to 8.15pm every day except Sunday. For more information visit volpetti.com.
