One Blenheim Terrace, St. John's Wood
Last night (Tues 27th Sep), we had the privilege of being invited to the official launch of One Blenheim Terrace, St John’s Wood’s newest restaurant….
Former chef at the Ivy, Ed Shaerf welcomed guests to sample an assortment of his favourite dishes with a selection of complementing beer and wine pairings. Specialising in ‘Modern British’ Cuisine, One Blenheim Terrace have essentially rewound the clock on Traditional British dishes from Scotch Egg to Rice Pudding.
By stripping traditional British recipes back to basics, Ed Shaerf has imaginatively reinvented them from the ground up!
In this day-and-age, where vast chains of every cuisine from Italian to Japanese Restaurants seem to line our High Streets, it is always refreshing to see an all-new fully independent one emerge. Yet it has to be said that short of Country Pubs, they just never seen to be British. Granted, there was a time when the exotic nature of foreign cuisine gave eating-out a sense of occasion, but now I think those days are fast fading. With the elegant sophistication in which British Classics were brought back to life at One Blenheim Terrace, not only can us Brits shake-off the stigma of Fish’n'Chips or a Sunday Roast with over-cooked vege being branded a so-called tradition, but I can now see foreign nationalities indulging in our native cuisine instead of merely laughing it aside and launching another Pizza franchise.
Amongst the many mouth-watering dishes a exquisitely matched pairings of the night, one that really appeased my taste-buds, was the Smoked Salmon. While not typically a fan of over-powering nature of smoke-fish, this was so delicate tasting and beautifully presented that it would have bagged my vote on originality alone.
What first stood out was the oak-smoked taste, which instead of engulfing the fish, left it delicate and succulent with the smoked essense presenting itself only as a gentle yet acute after-thought.
The dish was served steaming within a glass dish (as pictured), with dill emulsion, an erect square of skin crisp, and salmon roe and dill, this was creatively partnered with Purity Pure UBU, a ruby-amber ale brewed in Warwickshire with strong hints of caramel, delivering a sweet yet nutty taste with a slight touch of ginger.
This pleasantly brings me in to my next rant, with how over-looked beer and ales are in today’s territory of self-proclaimed Wine buffs and overtly flamboyant Sommeliers with a gusto for making wines sound a damn-sight more enticing then they often end up tasting. Needless to say, I am just as partial to both grape or yeast based contenders, but in keeping with the Modern British theme I really was pleasantly surprised with this added addition of beer matching, which amidst all the other expertly paired dishes made for a truly revolutionary take on British Cuisine, and certainly gave me more than enough reasons to book a reservation to sample their other numerous culinary delights.
The light and airy restaurant features bright and modern furnishings in keeping with the food and has a additional terrace area for those glorious evenings when alfresco dining is a must.

Showcase Live 12/9/11 @Under The Bridge
12/9/11 saw the eagerly awaited relaunch of London’s premier music showcase platform ‘Showcase Live’.
After a six-month break ‘Showcase Live’ (founded by George Eason) are back with plenty of investment and a newly formulated board including young entrepreneur extraordinaire
Timothy Connor, who is already developing quite a reputation in the Entertainment Industry and throwing all his business expertise into the rebranding and expansion of the outfit. They already have huge plans and will be rolling out the platform in Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow before then taking on the rest of Europe in the not so distant future.
Their flagship event held every 6 weeks is to be held at Roman Abramovich’s new live venue ‘Under The Bridge’ which is based under his Chelsea Football Stadium at Stamford Bridge. For any of you who have not yet had the chance to visit it, has recently undergone a £20 million refit and has been purpose built as a music venue to fulfil Abramovich’s passion for quality live music. The result is breath-taking, with aurally perfect acoustics and state-of-the-art audio and lighting equipment throughout. Previously responsible for showcasing the likes of Jessie J and JLS, to name a few, the West-London based ‘Showcase Live’ outfit most certainly had a great deal to live up to on their much-anticipated return and they certainly did not disappoint…
“The relaunch itself kicked off at 7.30pm, which given the fact that it was a Monday night and in a new venue could well have spelled disaster for many a music promoter”.
Nonetheless, having personally been extended VIP passes for myself and three associates, we had been advised that the action was kicking-off early and to be there in good time. It was unquestionably paramount that we did, given the crowds that were already tailing back around the building when we arrived.
“Filled with a mix of music aficionados, musicians, music industry insiders and celebrities including Lemar, Jade Ewen (Sugababes), Encore and a who’s who of X-Factor contestants amongst Record label Executives and Talent Scouts. The atmosphere was electric, oozing with artistic energy and showbiz glitz and they surely re-affirmed their dominance in the industry and further extended their contacts database”.
Six acts took to the stage on the night ranging from indie/pop to a soulful acoustic performances and an up-to-the-minute urban/pop girl band. Genre and taste aside, what all six acts had in common is that they were all genuinely exceptional and at the forefront of their game. There were no weak links to the line-up and every act deserved their slot on the bill.
The definite stand-out for us had to be that of Will Heard. He is one of these simple yet almost accidentally beautiful sounding acoustic artists, who armed with little more than a guitar and his voice managed to single-handedly mesmerise us all with the depth and integrity of his voice, fusing a seamless blend of earthy rock, with blues and doo-wop(like) vocal sketches. Girl band Vida (managed by JLS’s Ortise Williams) pulled-off an impressively choreographed dance routine with all the menace you would expect from an in-ya-face act of young teenage girls, exuding the kind of atitude and energy that will soon no-doubt see them grace our TV screens and airwaves in the not so distant future.
Overall, it was great evening, covering a vast array of musical flavours and providing us all with a preview of the next breed of artists before they are no-doubt prepped and subjected to the full wrath of big-budget productions and Worldwide promotional campaigns. So whether you are an aspiring Pop-star or an industry-insider wanting to land the next big record label signing, go and visit their website for all the details and we’ll see you at their next event! http://showcaselive.co.uk/

All-new Brabus CLS; 'Rocket 800'
Meet the all-new BRABUS ROCKET 800, fresh from the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show IAA and the World’s Fastest Street-Legal Sedan, with a Top Speed in Excess of 370 km/h, 800 hp / 588 kW and 1,420 Nm!!?!
BRABUS has been building the world’s fastest street-legal sedans for many years. This tradition started in 1996 with the BRABUS E V12 that had a top speed of 330 km/h (205 mph), and continued in 2003 with the E V12 Biturbo that reached 350.2 km/h (217.6 mph). In 2006 the BRABUS ROCKET, built in small-series production based on the first edition of the Mercedes CLS, improved the world record to 365.7 km/h (222.7 mph). The BRABUS E V12 “one of ten” based on the latest E-Class, pushed the record to 370 km/h (230 mph).
The world debut of the new BRABUS ROCKET 800 from BRABUS at the 2011 IAA in Frankfurt/Main now continues this unique success story. The high-performance automobile based on the new Mercedes CLS generation is powered by a BRABUS 800 V12 Biturbo engine that produces 800 hp (788 bhp) / 588 kW of power and a peak torque of 1,420 Nm (1,047 lb-ft), which in the car is limited to 1,100 Nm (811 lb-ft). The exclusively appointed BRABUS ROCKET 800, built to order starting at EUR 429,000, reaches a top speed in excess of 370 km/h (230 mph) and accelerates from 0 to 300 km/h (186 mph) in just 23.8 seconds.
Like its predecessors the new BRABUS ROCKET 800 is also powered by a 12-cylinder high-capacity engine that was converted to 800 V12 Biturbo specifications in the BRABUS engine-building shop.
Using state-of-the-art machining processes and with utmost precision in every last detail the engine, based on the latest Mercedes 600 engines, underwent a displacement increase from 5.5 to 6.3 liters (336 to 384 cu. in.). The displacement increase comprises a special crankshaft with longer stroke, larger, forged pistons and an increase in cylinder bore across the board. Intake and outlet ports of both cylinder heads are optimized for mixture flow, and fitted with sports camshafts.
The intake side was also completely reworked: the hood of the ROCKET 800 features a carbon-fiber ram-air intake system that gets its combustion air through slits in the BRABUS front element. Another custom development is the BRABUS 800 Biturbo system. It comprises two special exhaust manifolds with integrated high-performance turbochargers, and four water-to-air intercoolers. The stainless-steel high-performance exhaust system with free-flow metal catalysts and butterfly valve was also created specifically for the CLS floorpan. Just as elaborate was the implantation of the V12 engine and all its peripherals into the modified engine bay of the sedan. Numerous components such as the engine mounts had to be custom designed.
Another engineering masterpiece of the BRABUS engineers is the newly configured on-board electronics system. It includes newly programmed engine mapping that contributes equally to achieving maximum power yield and to meeting the current EURO V emission standards. Just as important is the adaption to the driving dynamics systems such as traction control, ESP, ABS and Brake Assist.
The BRABUS 800 V12 Biturbo engine is lubricated with high-tech motor oil from technology partner ARAL and produces 800 hp (788 bhp) / 588 kW at 5,500 rpm. The even more enormous peak torque of 1,420 Nm (1,047 lb-ft), available from a low 2,100 rpm, is limited electronically in the car to 1,100 Nm (811 lb-ft).
For the first time the BRABUS engine specialists combine this high-end engine with a seven-speed quick-shift gearbox. Gears are shifted by means of shift paddles on the steering wheel or automatically. The BRABUS limited-slip differential, available with various final drive ratios, optimizes traction of the rear-wheel-drive car. The BRABUS 800 V12 Biturbo engine and the entire powertrain are operated with high-performance lubricants from technology partner ARAL.
With the longest available final-drive ratio the BRABUS ROCKET 800 reaches a top speed of more than 370 km/h (230 mph), making it the world’s fastest street-legal sedan. But this exclusive high-performance automobile is tops in other areas as well: 0 – 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.7 seconds, 0 – 200 km/h (124 mph) in 9.8 seconds and 0 – 300 km/h (186 mph) in 23.8 seconds are figures that are as unique as this BRABUS automobile itself.
To keep the enormous performance of the world’s fastest sedan safely in check at all times, the vehicle’s aerodynamic properties, suspension and brakes were modified extensively.
The ROCKET 800 front element was developed in the wind tunnel. The aerodynamic-enhancement components for the ROCKET 800 are manufactured form ultra-light yet high-strength carbon fiber. The front spoiler features large air inlets and side air vents to ensure optimal air supply of radiators, oil coolers and front brakes. Just as important is that it also minimizes lift on the front axle while improving drag. The air inlets above the radiator cutout provide the ram-air intake system of the 12-cylinder engine with ample combustion air.
The air vents in the front fenders are part of the sporty-elegant yet understated appearance of the four-door car. BRABUS side skirts with integrated LED entrance lights calm the airstream along the vehicle’s sides. They also form a transition to the carbon-fiber fender flares on the rear axle, which add 40 millimeters (1.6 in.) to the width of the ROCKET 800 compared to a stock CLS.
To achieve an optimal aerodynamic balance, the BRABUS design studio has developed a rear wing and a rear diffuser for the CLS body. Side air vents in the rear bumper round out the sporty appearance. A high-performance vehicle such as the BRABUS ROCKET 800 naturally also has a precisely calibrated high-end suspension. A height-adjustable coilover suspension was developed in cooperation with technology partner BILSTEIN. In addition to an adjustable ride height the gas-pressure shocks on front and rear axle feature ten selectable settings each for bound and rebound. Sport sway bars give the car even more agile turn-in and reduce body roll during fast cornering.
Maximum stopping power and absolutely fade-resistant brakes are further active safety features of the ROCKET 800. The BRABUS high-performance brake system was adapted to work with the Brake Assist system of the CLS. On the front axle it consists of vented and grooved steel brake discs that measure 380 x 37 millimeters (15.0 x 1.45 in.) and 12-piston aluminum fixed calipers. Vented and grooved steel discs measuring 360 x 28 millimeters (14.2 x 1.1 in.) and six-piston fixed aluminum calipers on the rear axle complete the extremely efficient and durable brake system.
The immense top speed of the BRABUS ROCKET 800, for street operations limited electronically to 350 km/h (217 mph), necessitates special high-performance tires. Technology partners Continental, Pirelli and YOKOHAMA mount the 19-inch one-piece BRABUS Monoblock F wheels with high-speed-capable tires. The front axle features size 9.5Jx19 wheels and tires in size 255/35 ZR 19. Tires in size 285/30 ZR 19 mounted on identically sized wheels on the rear axle provide excellent traction.
The ergonomically shaped BRABUS sport steering wheel with aluminum shift paddles always guarantees perfect, close contact with the suspension.
Aluminum pedals, footrest and shifter add further sporty highlights. The BRABUS speedometer with 400-km/h (250-mph) dial is also part of the custom-tailored interior as are stainless-steel scuff plates with backlit ROCKET 800 logo.
They welcome driver and passengers to the exclusive atmosphere of a BRABUS fine leather interior. The company upholstery shop has created an all-leather gray interior crafted with utmost precision from the finest supple leather. The leather is combined with high-gloss-polished black piano wood and a headliner made from black Alcantara. The headrests are embroidered with a BRABUS and a ROCKET 800 logo.

Brabus / Mercedes CL500 4MATIC
World Debut at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show IAA
BRABUS Power for the Mercedes CL 500 4MATIC
Performance Kits for 490 or 520 hp, 300-km/h Top Speed, up to 22-Inch Wheels and a Sporty-Elegant Designer Suit
520 hp (512 bhp) / 382 kW, a peak torque of 820 Nm (604 lb-ft), a top speed of 300 km/h (186 mph), a wide selection of wheels with diameters of up to 22 inches, a sporty-elegant designer suit and exclusive interior options. BRABUS presents an elaborately refined version of the Mercedes CL 500 4MATIC BlueEFFICIENCY in a world debut at the 2011 IAA in Frankfurt.
The all-wheel-drive version of the CL 500 comes equipped from the factory with a 4.7-liter eight-cylinder twin turbo engine that produces 435 hp (429 bhp) / 320 kW and has a peak torque of 700 Nm (516 lb-ft). The BRABUS engine specialists have developed two different BRABUS PowerXtra CGI performance kits for this engine. BRABUS B50 - 490 engine tuning consists of a plug-and-play BRABUS PowerXtra module, which is integrated into the engine electronics and recalibrates the mapping for ignition, injection and the electronic boost pressure control.
After the conversion the 4.7-liter eight-cylinder twin turbo engine produces a powerful 490 hp (482 bhp) / 360 kW, up from 435 hp (429 bhp) / 320 kW. Peak torque jumps to 780 Nm (575 lb-ft).
The BRABUS B50 - 520 PowerXtra performance kit features an additional intercooler. This BRABUS power upgrade produces 520 hp (512 bhp) / 382 kW at 5,250 rpm, an increase by 85 horsepower. Simultaneously peak torque grows to 820 Nm (604 lb-ft) between 1,800 and 3,500 rpm. The performance of the tuned CL 500 4MATIC BlueEFFICIENCY benefits accordingly. The all-wheel-drive coupe accelerates from rest to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.5 seconds. The BRABUS Vmax unit eliminates the standard 250-km/h (155-mph) speed limit. The two-door car equipped with Vmax unit and BRABUS B50 - 520 PowerXtra performance kit reaches a top speed of 300 km/h (186 mph). The new top speed requires the installation of a BRABUS speedometer with 360-km/h (224-mph) dial.
The BRABUS stainless-steel sport exhaust system with butterfly valve and four distinctive BRABUS-design tailpipes provide the V8 engine with a sportier exhaust note that never becomes intrusive. BRABUS offers not just engine tuning but a complete customization program for the 2011 facelift generation of the Mercedes CL-Class. It includes a sporty-elegant aerodynamic-enhancement kit that fits all latest versions of the coupe not equipped ex-factory with AMG body styling. The BRABUS front spoiler attaches to the underside of the production bumper and gives the CL an even more energetic front end. The spoiler’s sophisticated shape was fine-tuned in the wind tunnel and reduces lift on the front axle at high speeds. To optimize the airflow along the vehicle’s sides the BRABUS designers developed strikingly styled side skirts with stylized air vent. The side skirts also feature integrated LED entrance lights for safely getting in and out of the vehicle in the dark.
The BRABUS rear fascia features a central reflector and a custom-tailored cutout on each side for the two dual tailpipes of the BRABUS sport exhaust system. An understated rear spoiler on the trunk lid rounds out the striking looks, and minimizes lift on the rear axle.
Just as important for a custom appearance and sportier handling are custom-tailored wheels. The new CL 500 4MATIC can be equipped with BRABUS Monoblock wheels in various designs and with diameters between 18 and 22 inches. The especially exclusive BRABUS “Platinum Edition” forged wheels represent high tech par excellence. The Monoblock F cross-spoke design is available in size 9Jx21 mounted with tires in size 265/30 ZR 21 from BRABUS technology partners Continental, Pirelli and YOKOHAMA. The BRABUS lowering module for the standard ABC suspension is specifically calibrated to these ultra-low-profile tires. The module lowers the ride height of the two-door car by some 25 millimeters (1 in.).
To keep the enormous performance safely under control, the Mercedes naturally can be equipped with a BRABUS high-performance brake system that comes in various versions. Version IV, the largest one, consists of vented and cross-drilled discs measuring 405 x 35 mm (16 x 1.4 in.) and 6-piston aluminum fixed calipers on the front axle. The rear axle stops on steel discs measuring 380 x 34 mm (15 x 1.3 in.) and 4-piston aluminum fixed calipers.
The interior of the all-wheel-drive Mercedes coupe also offers numerous possibilities for exclusive BRABUS refinement….
The list of accessories ranges from scuff plates with backlit BRABUS logo and an ergonomically shaped sport steering wheel to aluminum pedals, footrest and shifter. The BRABUS upholstery shop offers countless exclusive options for trimming the interior of the CL-Class to suit the owner’s personal taste. A giant selection of especially soft yet durable BRABUS Mastik leather and finest Alcantara in any desired color is available for that purpose.
Just as diverse is the selection of wood and carbon-fiber trim. The wood inlays can be manufactured in any desired color and wood grain with a high-gloss or matte surface finish. The lineup of sporty carbon-fiber trim is just as colourful.
BRABUS also offers a multitude of options for equipping the CL coupe with a multimedia system tailored to customer’s specifications.

ARTiculate Pratham Gala 2011
Following the success of the 2010 Pratham UK Gala, ARTiculate, which raised over £2.1 million, we are pleased to announce that this yearʼs Gala will take place on Saturday 8th October at The Roundhouse, London, NW1.
Amidst a spectacular setting that pays homage to India, ARTiculate, will feed the senses and the soul and will take guests on an inspiring journey.
Pratham is Indiaʼs leading NGO dedicated to the education of Indiaʼs underprivileged.
Its mission is ʻevery child in school and learning wellʼ. Since its inception in 1994 over 34 million Indian children have benefited from Prathamʼs literacy campaign. Pratham UK, founded in 2003 by a group of volunteers to support the charityʼs vital objectives, works to engage the UK community by holding fundraising and awareness building events throughout the year.
The highlight of which is the ARTiculate gala, an event inspired by art and design.
ARTiculate is generously supported by Londonʼs international high networth community, as well as the business elite. 600 guests attended last yearʼs event at Old Billingsgate Market. These included the Mittals, Lord Bilimoria and other leading names from business and society. ARTiculate unveiled the worldʼs largest hand-cut paper chandelier ʻThe Lightʼ which comprised over 12,000 paper screens individually hand painted by over 8,000 children educated through Pratham.
A number of impressive lots were auctioned by star auctioneer Charlie Ross to benefit the charity. They included a 27-litre bottle of one of Italyʼs finest wines, LʼAndrea of Monte Vibiano which raised £55,000, a cameo appearance in director Gurinder Chadhaʼs next film sold for £40,000 and a fabulous sari designed by Manav Gangwani, which along with a Boucheron watch from the Carre collection was auctioned for a staggering £36,000. Also up for auction will be a truly exclusive chance to be the first in the UK to own the much talked-about all-new
Fisker Karma Sedan.
The art inspired event in October 2011 will be influenced by the journey of the Pratham child and will include an art auction, the main Gala auction led by Lord Dalmeny, Deputy Chairman of Sothebyʼs UK, and live entertainment by Talvin Singh. Tables are currently on sale for £75,000, £30,000 and 15,000. Sponsorship opportunities are also available.
